August 27, 1990


Bernard Roy, federal negotiator involved in settling the issue of
judicial defence, has announced that the federal government has
officially broken off their negotiations with the Mohawk Nation.  "The
government told us these negotiations had reached a stalemate.  Then,
they picked up their papers and walked away from the negotiating table. 
The Mohawk people are still prepared to negotiate", said Joe Deom,
Mohawk Negotiator.

This comment has caused a chain reaction from the Quebec Provincial
government who is calling an end to the Agreement on Preconditions and
the withdrawal of the international observers.  This will be a clear
indication of the governments' intent to move in the army without
witnesses.  The Mohawk Nation urges the World Community of Nations to
halt the bloodshed that is likely to occur.

The Mohawk Nation is truly in a state of emergency.  The governments'
reaction has pushed the Mohawk situation into its most serious and
volatile stage.  All civilians are urged to come to the barricades and
stand with the Mohawk people.

URGENT:  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

With peaceful hearts and tranquil minds, the Kanienkehaka people await
the violent assaults promised by the racist governments of Brian
Mulroney and Robert Bourassa.  

Our peace and tranquillity flows from the knowledge that we have
followed our law and worked for peace with all of our might.  Now that
war is being forced upon us, we will turn our hearts and minds to war
and it too we will wage with all of our might.  

Ours is a just and honourable position.  It flows from our laws and our
way.  Our enemies have no such honour.  They have no such commitment to
the principles of peace and justice based on truth and the equality of
all living things.  

Our strength of heart, mind and spirit flows from these principles.  As
we stand before the darkest enemies of humanity and the nobility of all
life, we are unafraid.  

Our spirits are strong.  We are together at last with ourselves and the
world of our ancestors; we are proud before our children and our
generations unborn.  

We are true to the spirits of our past.  We are true to the spirits of
our present.  We are true to the spirits of those unborn.  

We are free.  

No yoke of white government oppression can contain us.  

We are free.
