Hi Gary, received this message a couple of days ago after the nonsense message by Cliff Shepstone and my reply hit the Aboriginal Affairs Fido echo. I am not sure what your feeling is on "advertising" in NativeNet so, instead of posting it there I rather send it to you for consideration. I am also quite uncertain of how to proceed in this Shepstone thing. He does not let off smearing Fred Towner for posting the Gerald Alfred message, and is generally a patronizing, condescending and insulting fellow. I already regret having tried to channel things back and forth. I am now stuck with trying to pass on between the nets messages written at different times responding to chronologically out of whack arguments. Shepstone is already hinting that I am only passing on the material from NativeNet that is bad and nothing that supports his "unbiased, based on facts" arguments. Some guidance would be appreciated. I would really appreciate it if you could forward it to others who might be interested in obtaining some of the pieces in it. If possible, it would also be really great if you could cross post it on the UUCP net, I don't have access to it yet. I hope you enjoy the catalog. Thanks, John * * * * * =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | | | ABOUT THE CENTER | | | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Center for World Indigenous Studies (CWIS) is a non profit (U.S. 501 c 3) research and education organization dedicated to wider understanding and appreciation of the ideas and knowledge of indigenous peoples and the reality of indigenous nations. The Center fosters better understanding between peoples through the publication and distribution of social, economic and political literature written and voiced by leading contributors from Fourth World nations. Established in the Spring of 1984 in response to calls by the Conference of Tribal Governments in the United States and the World Council of Indigenous Peoples for a documents center concerned with the advancement of ideas for solving social, economic and political problems in the Fourth World, the Center for World indigenous Studies links voluntary contributors world-wide and conducts original research, education, conflict resolution and communications programs which concern peoples on every continent. More than 3000 Fourth World Nations have an important role in the natural world and in the relations between more than 180 States. With rich cultures and a wealth of creativity, these nations have tenaciously held their ground despite centuries of colonization and repression. The political map of the world is constantly changing. States and empires rise and fall. Fourth World Nations, the first nations in the Western Hemisphere, Pacific Islands, Melanesia, Asia, Africa, Eurasia and Europe persist. Now Fourth World Nations command a greater influence in the reshaping of the world, resuming the role they played before the domination of international relations by States. Frequently misunderstood and often misrepresented by observers, the peoples of the first nations now have the opportunity and duty to directly contribute to the world's social, economic and political thinking. Misunderstandings lead to controversy and often conflict between nations and States. CWIS offers opportunities for individuals who live in the reality of Fourth World nations to contribute to the world's knowledge and, thus, improve understandings between peoples. Through a global network of contributors, CWIS seeks to encourage dialogue between nations and between nations and States to achieve a more cooperative and peaceful world.
